Alone WordPress Theme Review 2026: Is It Worth $69?

Full disclosure before we start: we built Alone. We’re Beplus, the studio behind it, and this review sits on our own blog. So read it with that in mind and read it because a review from the people who maintain the codebase can tell you things a third-party roundup can’t, including where the theme falls short and who genuinely shouldn’t buy it.

We’ve included both. If you want the short version: Alone is a strong fit for nonprofits who want a donation-ready site running in a weekend and are comfortable with Elementor. It’s the wrong choice if you want a lean, minimal codebase or you build in Gutenberg. Details below.

What Alone is, in one paragraph

Alone is a premium WordPress theme built specifically for charities, NGOs, foundations, churches, and fundraising campaigns. It ships with 40+ pre-built demo layouts you import in one click, deep integration with GiveWP for donations, an Elementor-based editing workflow, and WooCommerce support for merchandise and ticket sales. It launched on ThemeForest in 2016 and has since passed 10,000 sales with a 4.79-star average across 581 reviews.

Since July 2026 it’s also sold directly from beplusthemes.com which matters for pricing, and we’ll get to why.

Pricing: what you actually pay

This is the part most reviews get wrong, so let’s be precise.

Alone is $69. That’s the license, all 40+ demos, the bundled premium plugins, 12 months of priority support, and Elementor Pro activated on your site by our team. One payment, and the theme is yours to use indefinitely.

After the first year there’s an optional $34.50/year renewal that keeps updates and support flowing. It is not a requirement to keep using the theme. If you don’t renew, Alone keeps working on your site you simply stop receiving new versions, security patches, and access to our support queue. No lockout, no expiry, no feature removal.

Put against what a nonprofit would otherwise spend, the maths is straightforward: a custom-designed nonprofit site starts around $5,000 with a freelancer, and Elementor Pro on its own is a yearly subscription. For $69 you’re getting the design work, the donation infrastructure, and the page builder license together. Our nonprofit website cost breakdown has the full comparison if you’re building a budget.

What Alone does well

The demo library is the real product

Forty-plus demos sounds like marketing filler until you understand what it replaces. Each demo is a complete, styled site for a specific nonprofit sub-niche animal rescue, church community, disaster relief, medical fundraising, environmental advocacy, education charity, political campaign. You import one and you’re not starting from a blank page; you’re editing a site that already looks like it belongs in your sector.

For an organization without a designer, this is the difference between launching in a weekend and launching in three months. It’s the single strongest reason people buy Alone.

Donation flows are built in, not bolted on

Alone integrates with GiveWP, the most widely used donation plugin for WordPress. The integration matters because GiveWP’s default forms look generic, Alone ships pre-styled templates so donation forms match the rest of your site without CSS work. Recurring donations, multiple payment gateways, tax receipts, and donor management all come from GiveWP itself, so you get a mature fundraising stack rather than a homegrown donation button.

If you want the full setup walkthrough, we’ve written a complete GiveWP configuration guide that covers gateways, recurring giving, and receipt templates step by step.

Accessibility is taken seriously

Alone ships WCAG-ready with an accessibility toolbar, keyboard navigation support, and sensible contrast defaults. This is not a nice-to-have for nonprofits. ADA-related web accessibility complaints against US nonprofits have risen sharply since 2018, and retrofitting accessibility into a theme that ignored it costs far more than choosing correctly upfront.

Worth stating plainly: no theme makes your site compliant on its own. Alone gives you a compliant foundation; your content choices alt text, contrast on custom colors, video captions determine the outcome.

Multilingual and RTL work out of the box

WPML compatibility and RTL layout support are included. For international NGOs and organizations serving multilingual communities, this removes a common and expensive blocker.

Elementor Pro comes activated for you

Buying from beplusthemes.com includes Elementor Pro activated on your site by our team under Beplus’s agency license. You open a support ticket after purchase and we enable it, usually within a day. That covers Theme Builder, the Pro widget library, Popup Builder, and the WooCommerce builder normally a separate annual subscription.

For a nonprofit on a tight budget this is the largest single piece of value in the package a page builder licence that would otherwise be a recurring cost of its own, folded into the $69.

Where Alone falls short

This is the section we’d skip if this were a sales page. It isn’t.

You’re committing to Elementor

Alone is built on Elementor. If you like Elementor, this is a feature. If you prefer the native WordPress block editor, or you build in Bricks, Breakdance, or Oxygen, Alone will fight you. The demos are Elementor templates; editing them any other way means rebuilding them.

This is the most common reason we see people return the theme, and it’s a legitimate one. Decide how you feel about Elementor before you buy, not after.

The codebase shows its age

Alone launched in 2016. Ten years of feature additions on a 2016 foundation means the theme carries weight it doesn’t strictly need more bundled dependencies, more legacy code paths, a heavier install than a theme designed today would have. It’s stable and well-tested, but “modern and lean” is not an honest description of it.

We’re addressing this directly: a ground-up rebuild on a modern core is in progress. But we’re not going to pretend the current version is something it isn’t while that work happens.

It needs optimization work to be fast

Out of the box, with a full demo imported, Alone is not a fast theme. Forty demos’ worth of assets, Elementor, GiveWP, and WooCommerce together add up. You will need a caching plugin, image optimization, and probably WP Rocket or similar to hit good Core Web Vitals numbers.

This is true of essentially every multipurpose premium theme, but it’s still a real cost in time you should budget for. If page speed is your top priority and you only need three pages, a lightweight theme like GeneratePress will beat Alone on performance every time.

Forty demos can be paralyzing

More choice is not always better. We regularly see new users spend a week deciding which demo to import. Our advice: pick the one closest to your sector in the first ten minutes, import it, and start replacing content. You can switch demos later, and the decision matters far less than getting your actual story onto the page.

Bundled plugin dependencies

Alone bundles several premium plugins. That’s real value but it also means parts of your site depend on plugins whose licensing flows through the theme. If you later switch themes, you’ll need to sort out which of those plugins you want to license independently. Worth knowing before you build your whole site on them.

Who should buy Alone

Nonprofit website built with the Alone WordPress theme

Alone is a good fit if you recognize yourself here:

  • A nonprofit with no in-house developer that needs a professional, donation-ready site in weeks rather than months
  • An organization in a specific sub-niche animal rescue, church, environmental, medical fundraising where a tailored demo saves you a design phase entirely
  • Teams already comfortable with Elementor, or willing to learn one page builder well
  • Nonprofits needing donations plus something else events, merchandise, volunteer management, multiple languages where a multipurpose theme genuinely earns its weight
  • Agencies building nonprofit sites repeatedly, where the demo library compresses project timelines across many clients

Who shouldn’t

Skip Alone if any of these describe you:

  • You build in Gutenberg or a non-Elementor builder. This is a hard incompatibility, not a preference you’ll get over.
  • You need a three-page brochure site. Alone is heavy for that. A free theme plus a donation plugin will serve you better and cost nothing.
  • Page speed is your single top priority. A lightweight theme will beat a multipurpose one on Core Web Vitals, full stop.
  • You have a developer and a custom design. If someone’s building you a custom theme, a premium multipurpose theme just gets in the way.
  • You want zero recurring costs and zero decisions. Consider a hosted platform. It’ll cost more over three years but requires less of you.

How Alone compares to the alternatives

The trade-off is consistent across the row: Alone buys you time at the cost of weight and builder lock-in. Whether that’s a good trade depends entirely on which resource you’re shorter on time or technical capacity.

Frequently asked questions

Is Alone a one-time payment?

You pay $69 once for the license and the theme is yours to use indefinitely. To keep receiving updates and support after the first year, there’s an optional $34.50/year renewal. If you don’t renew, the theme continues working you just won’t get new versions or support access.

What’s included in the $69?

The theme license, all 40+ demo layouts, the bundled premium plugins, 12 months of priority support direct from the development team, and Elementor Pro activated on your site under our agency license. Hosting, your domain, and any third-party plugins you add are separate see our nonprofit website cost breakdown for the full picture.

Can I use Alone on more than one site?

The regular license covers one site. For multiple sites or client work, get in touch through our contact form before you buy and we’ll work out the right licensing arrangement for your situation.

Does Alone work with the WordPress block editor?

The theme is functional with Gutenberg, but all 40+ demos are built as Elementor templates. Using Alone without Elementor means giving up the main reason to buy it. If you’re committed to blocks, choose a block-native theme instead.

How long does it take to build a site with Alone?

Importing a demo takes about five minutes. Replacing content, configuring donations, and getting launch-ready typically runs 15-25 hours of work spread over two to three weeks for a first-time builder. Our step-by-step nonprofit site guide walks through the whole sequence.

Is there a refund policy?

Every purchase carries a 30-day money-back guarantee, processed through your Freemius dashboard. If Alone turns out to be the wrong fit particularly on the Elementor question you’re not stuck with it.

What happens if I don’t renew after the first year?

Your theme keeps working, indefinitely. You stop receiving new versions, security patches, and support access, but nothing is disabled and no features are removed. You can renew later if you decide you want updates again.

The verdict

Alone earns its place if you’re a nonprofit that needs to look credible and take donations soon, without a developer or a design budget. The demo library is genuinely the fastest path from nothing to a working nonprofit site that we know of, and ten years of production use across 10,000+ organizations means the edge cases have been found and fixed.

It’s not the lightest theme, it’s not the fastest, and it ties you to Elementor. Those are real costs, not marketing caveats. If any of them is a dealbreaker for you, we’d rather you knew now than after the refund window closed.

The question isn’t whether Alone is the best theme in the abstract. It’s whether trading some weight and builder flexibility for a large head start is the right trade for your organization this year. For most small and mid-size nonprofits, it is.
